I like most things "Mexican" and thought this might be an no-brain lunch idea on days when I don't feel like a sandwich. The directions on the back couldn't be easier... Squeeze, Tear, Heat, and the price was right, so I went ahead and tossed this in my cart.
Sure enough, the directions were the easy part. Choking this foul rice down my hungry maw was the hard part.
For starters, I chose 80 seconds on the microwave. The directions say 1-1.5 minutes "Until Hot" so I went for the median timing there. As it heated, there was a very odd and synthetic smell coming out of the micro vent -- Like someone was melting a GI Joe covered in tanning lotion. When I opened the bag, a slightly different but also synthetic smell came out in a little mushroom cloud of steam.
I dumped the bag out into a bowl and added a little butter. Looking back, I really should have just thrown the rice away and taken the butter dish over to the table instead. Normally when I think "Fiesta," I think of a fun party with lots of people I like to be around. Instead, this was the worst party my mouth has hosted in a long time. Clumpy, rubbery rice all glommed together with a few specks of corn and bell peppers -- I guess that's the "Fiesta" part of the dish.
Give me a bowl of Minute Rice and a can of cheap corn over this so-called time saver any day. I'd rather spend two more minutes in the kitchen and enjoy the finished dish!
For the pain two of my five senses endured, I give this failure of a side dish one star.
